So I’m finally deleting the last of my Twitter presence (which has been pretty much abandoned and on private for a few years anyway), but it is still a weird process to tidy up all that stuff from all the way back in 2007 when we thought Web 2.0 was the shizzle and evangelized about education and social media. I’ll be off Facey sometime in the next few months too. It is time.
To my mootsies and online colleagues. Think carefully about what you’ll do with your digital footprint and who you’ll trust with it as you make your own migratory moves. Repeating the same mistakes (*coughs* Bluesky *coughs* Threads *coughs*) is not a smart move.
No matter how much everyone tells you it’s nice and peaceful over ‘there’, services that are owned by companies that want to either sell your data or feed it to their ai monsters are not the solution.
Make a blog, join the fediverse, learn how to host your own wiki or group chat or whatever it is that floats your online boat.
I’ll add some resources to help us all figure this out in the near future.
